Of Natural Resources

The Department of Natural Resources is the Government of Anguilla’s newest natural resource agency formed by the merging of the former Department of Agriculture, Department of Environment and Department of Fisheries and Marine Resources

It subsumes the individual operations of these former departments with an overall mandate for food security, sustainable fishing & agriculture and climate adaption and resilience.

    Chief Natural Resources Officer (Head of Dept.)

    Ensure the efficient and effective delivery of Natural Resources Management (Environment, Agriculture, Fisheries and Marine Resources) and requisite services to the people of Anguilla, in accordance with Acts and Regulations and other established policies, plans, and programmes of the Department of Natural Resources and other relevant legislation.

    Manage, organise, ensure the appropriate financial, operational, and administrative management and operations of the Department of Natural Resources; to manage the financial and operational and to maintain a consistent high image and meet the department’s objectives; to provide a level of operational, financial and administrative service considered with effective, efficient operation of a national environment agency.

    Coordinate and supervise the provision of appropriate administrative and financial support services for the achievement of the goals and objectives of a national resource management agency.

    Executive Secretary

    Plan, organise, coordinate, and implement the administrative, secretarial, and office management services for the Department of Natural Resources so as to facilitate the achievement of the Department’s goals and objectives.

    Support, coordinate and implement all agricultural management and protection projects adopted by Anguilla, that provide broad guidance for approved agricultural legislation, regulations and other relevant policies, agricultural planning and management, sustainable development and use of agricultural resources in Anguilla.

    Natural Resources Officer I- Horticulturist

    Organise, direct and implement horticultural services and programmes so as to increase and sustain the production of fruits, vegetables and ornamental plants and shrubs.

    Natural Resources Officer I- Agronomist

    Organise, direct and promote the development of vegetable, root food crops and other agronomic services and programmes so as to increase and sustain crop production.

    Natural Resources Officer I- Plant Protection

    Organize, direct and promote the development of plant quarantine programmes pest and disease control activities and other programmes to increase and sustain crop production.

    Required to assist the technical staff in providing some of the valuable services provided by the Department. Duties are usually carried out in both ornamental and seedling greenhouses where they assist in the sale of seedlings and ornamental plants, assist in the extension services provided by the crop production, plant protection, livestock officers and Chief Veterinarian.

    Required to assist the technical staff in providing some of the valuable services provided by the Department.     Ensure implementation and enforcement of national legislation and policies relating to established environmental management and sustainable development programmes (food, energy, water) as well as mitigation procedures for developments.

    Natural Resources Officer I- Pollution Control and Prevention

    Ensure effective planning, implementation and enforcement (inclusive of education and mitigation/recovery) of legislation and policies relating to environmental pollution prevention and control as well as management and protection of natural resource management.

    Natural Resources Officer I- Conservation Education

    Ensure that natural resource conservation and education initiatives are fully part of and occur in schools, communities, NGOS, CBOs, statutory bodies private sector. To facilitate the implementation of marketing programmes to increase and sustain food production at the Department.

The Department of Natural Resources (DNaR) is a product of the merging of the Department of Agriculture, Department of Fisheries and Marine Resources and Department of Environment.
