About MAERI

The Mid-Atlantic Environment Research Institute has been developed to further progress and develop Environmental Research across the Mid-Atlantic region with a base in Anguilla. We work within the framework of a growing network of ‘sister’ Environmental Research Institutes that are being created across the UK’s Overseas Territories, that are territory-led and share expertise and experience between the islands.

Vision

Our vision is To be an internationally recognised academic institute, based in the Anguilla operating in the Caribbean and beyond conducting world class natural and physical science research, teaching students, and building capacity within and between the UK’s Caribbean Overseas Territories and beyond.

Mission

Our scientific mission is: To advance environmental understanding in the Mid Atlantic through research excellence and innovative science leadership, using our unique expertise to share, communicate and apply our skills and findings.

MAERI will deliver environmental training courses throughout the year at the Anguilla Community College. These include:

  • Marine Spatial Planning

  • Earth Observation: Understanding Earth Observation data
